 What is a navigational device?

A navigational device is any electronic device that has navigation software installed on it.
These devices come in many different forms. The most popular forms are PDA's (Personal Digital Assistants), Mobile Phones, Laptops and perpose built navigation systems (Tomtom Go for example). All of these devices (With the exception of purpose built systems) can have navigation software added to them which can be acquired from different manufactuers.
Visit one of the following websites for more information...(note. the following sites are normal websites which are not optimised for mobiles)
 tomtom  |  Navman  |  CoPilot  |  Garmin  |  WayFinder

Or you can go to our website  (www.nav-poi.com) for pictures of navigation devices in the help section.

 What is a POI?

'POIs' are Points Of Interest for navigational devices, they are also known as 'way points' or 'Overlays'. They are small files and come in different formats depending on which type of navigation device you are using.
Once downloaded they can be put on to your navigator and when activated will display a number of the locations for the points of interest selected. For example; if you choose to download the McDonalds POI for the UK, once loaded on to your navigator and activated your navigator will then display all the McDonalds locations in the UK, allowing you to select the closest one for you to navigate to.

 What formats do you offer?

We currently offer POIs for Tomtom, CoPilot, WayFinder, Miomap, Navio, Destinator, Navman and Garmin navigators. If your navigator is not one of these send us an e-mail and we will produce a POI in a format suitable for your navigator.

 TOP

Will the POI's be visible on my navigation screen all the time?

No, the POIs are only on if you turn them on, this means that you can have several POIs stored on your device at any one time but only view them when you want to.

How can I be sure that i have found the POI that i am looking for without having to load it on to my naviagtor?

If you download the file from our site it will come with a text file that will contain a brief explination of what the POI is for.

What is the differance between your 'mobile site' and your 'website'?

Our 'mobile site' has the same content as our website but it has been optimised for use with mobile phones and PDAs to ensure that it is easy to read and navigate aswell as quick to download.
The mobile site was created for people who have mobile phones with navigation capabilities and would like to be able to download a POI when they can not get to a PC.

Why dont you supply Icons with CoPilot POIs?

We do not supply Icons for CoPilot POIs because CoPilot does not allow you to use custom Icons.

I don't understand how to get the POI set I want from your website.

To download POIs from our site click on 'download' above, and this will take you to the 'download' section of the site.

When you are in the POI section of the site you will then be asked to select the type/brand of navigator that you are using (tomtom for example). Select the desired brand you use by clicking on it.

A list of categories will then appear. Select the category that you are interested.

When you find one that interests you and you want to download it, click on the name of it and it and then the download will begin.

If you are still having problems send an e-mail to info@nav-poi.com with 'downloading' as the subject and expalin the problem.

However  most devices require the following steps...

Once the file has downloaded it will have to be 'unziped' or 'extraced'. This will normally happen automatically once the file is selected.

Once the file hase been extraced you will be left with a folder. Inside this folder will be three files; an image, the POI file and a text file. Take these files and place them in the map folder for the desired country (Great britian for example)

Then you will have to close everything and start the navigation software if you are using a PDA or a mobile or reset the device if it's a purpose built one.

 TOP

 I cant see the POI

There are two main reasons why this may happen...

One: The POI, Image and Text file that you extrated and placed in the maps area are still in a folder. These files will need to be taken out of their individual folder placed in the desired map folder or...

Two: Becasue the POI was added after the navigation software had already started. Try restarting the software or device.
